This is a very fine uncut triangular needle with one barb on each edge. The three total barbs are all spaced about 3mm from the tip. There will be no apparent holes left behind with typical vinyl kits. It's great for yearling and adult hair, though some people do like it for the very fine kid and suri alpaca. Since it has 3 barbs it will pull more hairs into the hole when punching through a large bundle of hair, so it's best to hold only a small amount of hair while rooting. It works beautifully for the style of rooting in which one hair is isolated then punched in. We recommend this needle for everyone, including beginners!
